Multi-layered rate control for collaborative MIMO in LTE-advanced

In Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) system, collaborative MIMO schemes are widely proposed as a method to mitigate inter-cell interference (ICI). In this paper, we develop a collaborative MIMO scheme called multi-layered rate control (MLRC). Simulation results reveal that the proposed scheme improves the cell-edge UE performance without sacrificing the average sector throughput compared to fractional frequency reuse (FFR) with UE specific power control that was employed in the LTE system to mitigate the inter-cell interference. In addition, less information is required to be shared between the collaborative base stations.
