FACES-A FORTRAN Program for Generating Chernoff-Type Faces on a Line Printer
Danny W. Turner, F. Eugene Tidmore · The American Statistician · 1980
FACES is a computer program designed to generate Chernoff-type faces on a standard line printer; no special plotting devices are required. These faces provide a graphical procedure for displaying multivariate data. Information concerning the use of such faces appears in Chernoff (1973), Chernoff and Rizvi (1975), Fienberg (1979), Turner and Tidmore (1977), and Wang (1978). This FORTRAN program was designed and tested on Honeywell 636 hardware with a Honeywell Series 6000 FORTRAN compiler. It should be easy to implement on other systems. The program output includes a listing of the input data and one face for each case in the data set. The faces are printed eight per page. This version of FACES allows up to 12 variables per case. A listing of the FACES program and instructions for using it can be obtained from either of the following authors. Danny W. Turner and F.
