Hydrocarbon reservoir identification technology and its application based on low frequency shadow

Lien Bian, Zhenhua He, Deji Huang · 2009

The pores of actual stratum often contain fluid, so when the seismic wave propagates in them, there is inelastic attenuation, as a result of which, the low-frequency components keep more information of formation lithology than high frequency components. Both in theoretical research and practice of production, it is found that there is low frequency shadow under the hydrocarbon reservoir. In order to study the formation mechanism, numerical simulation is made based on two dimension viscous and diffusive wave equation. Through the high-precision time-frequency detection of the simulation results, low frequency shadow under the fluid-filled layer is found. Numerical simulation togrther with the application of actual data indicate the feasibility and application prospects of the hydrocarbon identification method which is based on low frequency shadow.
