A colleague tells me that professors who resort to quotations from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are over the hill. Having had a birthday two weeks ago, my twenties are now behind me; my hair is grey; my youth is spent. Accordingly, I view it as finally respectable to quote Lewis Carroll in these fading years. Those of you who are familiar with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are now anticipating puns from the Mock Turtle's Story. Such humor I will not burden you with today. At a much earlier point, in the Pool of Tears chapter of the book, Carroll in the person of Alice states:
