Role of Fiber Optics in Photography
N. S. Kapany · Japanese Journal of Applied Physics · 1964
Fiber optics has been used to transport and modify optical images with resultant high resolution and photometric efficiency. Assemblies of cylindrical fibers in the form of field flatteners and image dissectors have found applications in high resolution photographic systems. Furthermore, fused fiber assemblies in the form of FOCONs and fused fiber coupling plates have been used in photographic and photoelectronic devices for high resolution photography under low light level illumination. Design considerations as well as performance characteristics of fiber optics relevant to high resolution, wide angle and low F-ratio photographic systems, and image intensifies are discussed. Various performance characteristics, i.e., modulation transfer function, vignetting and T/number of the fiber optics systems are presented.
