An Automatic Blood Cell Counter Applied to Holstein Cows
Toru SAWASAKI · Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association · 1984
The Hemmeter (Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. Tokyo) is an automatic blood cell counter with which blood cells can be counted by its optical system. It was applied to Holstein cows.It was found to be superior to the hemocytometer in reproducibility and facility in counting. In the erythrocyte count, the correlation was low (r=0.551) between the two methods. In the leukocyte count, the coefficient of correlation was 0.925 between the two methods, but the count with the Hemmeter was approximately 20 % higher than that with the hemocytometer. Therefore, it was difficult to utilize the Hemmeter, with the present adjusting, for the blood cell count especially the erythrocyte count, in Holstein cows.
