This paper describes a way in which operational amplifiers may be combined with nonlinear circuit elements (for example diodes, transistors etc), to obtain analogue circuits presenting static nonlinear characteristic responses. These nonlinear circuits connected in series with a system presenting a symmetrical (to the y = x axis) static nonlinearity can result in an almost absolutely linear response to the total system. The nonlinear response between input voltage and rotational speed of a DC motor for small input voltages, which is known as the deadband nonlinearity, is given here as an example while the field of applications is boundless. The proposed circuits have been constructed and tested in our laboratory. Experimental results taken from the circuit linearizing the response of a DC motor are presented.
