Simplified Introduction to Optical Transport of Information

This paper briefly reviews, events which contributed in the optical transport technology development, guided transport of light, electrical to optical (E/O) and optical to electrical (O/E) conversion, limitation of bandwidth in electronic regeneration, advantages of optical amplification and emergence of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM).
