A Performance Index for the Unified Rock Classification System

C. Hsein Juang · Environmental and Engineering Geoscience · 1990

This paper presents a performance index for the Unified Rock Classification System (URCS). The methodology is based on fuzzy set theory, a new branch of mathematics which is regarded as an effective tool for dealing with qualitative assessments such as rock mass classification. The addition of numerical performance index to the URCS may enhance its capacity as a classification system for engineering purposes.
