Application of Requirements Complexity Analysis to Reduce Mission Cost and Risk
Tom Hancock · 2005
This paper will address the application of requirements complexity analysis to software systems for crewed and robotic spacecraft. Requirements complexity analysis is an evaluation of the complexity of a given software requirement. Requirements complexity is a leading cause of serious software errors. These problems escalate as the percentage of complex requirements increases for a mission. Analysis has shown a saving of up to 10% of projects overall cost can be achieved by correctly implementing complex requirements and accounting for complexity as a risk issues. This type of analysis can represent a real savings and reduction of risk for NASA, DoD or commercial space missions.
