KolonaTM Mobile Object Technology in a SWIM Environment

Thien Ngo, Mike Manzano · Infotech@Aerospace · 2005

This study describes both demonstrated and potential utilities of Topia Ventures' KolonaTM mobile objects in net-centric environments such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) System Wide Information Management (SWIM). Topia demonstrated to the FAA that Kolona mobile objects can enhance data communications in a modeled, notional National Airspace System (NAS) en route air traffic environment. In support of net-centric operations, KolonaTM mobile objects allow currently running software components to be dynamically distributed across a wide area. Kolona has the potential to provide a framework for efficiently deploying Air Traffic Management (ATM) applications and system management information to support the net-centric concept of SWIM. This study is based on two years of research and development, beginning in August 2003. Further research, demonstrations, testing, analysis, and participation in the SWIM test bed will help illustrate Kolona’s flexibility in increasingly complex scenarios and its utility in future FAA programs.
