The RTM5 Signal Processing Architecture
Daniel W. Cody · Computer Music Journal · 1982
A signal processing architecture has been developed that provides a very high degree of low-level programmability within an essentially parallel processing network. The network can be expanded, theoretically without limit, providing signal paths (pipelines) of any length. The RTM5 signal processing architecture comprises multiple, arbitrarily connected shared bus modules. Within each module resides a number of processing elements (PEs), which communicate over a synchronous (time-division multiplexed) bus referred to as a highway, and a highway controller (HWC). The HWC may have an external interface to a common terminal or host processor (Fig. 1).
