Several sources of errors in numerical flow visualization techniques

Susumu Shirayama · 1995

In the detail analysis of a structure of flowfield, accurate visualizations are demanded. For the purpose of constructing highly accurate visualization methods, we begin to find sources of errors in the process of visualization. We deal with a particle tracking method and volume rendering. In the particle tracking method, a role of local interpolation function is investigated. In volume rendering, shading models are mainly discussed. In the case of the particle tracking method, it is found that errors in some results are caused by the selection of the method of interpolating a local distribution of vector values. Also, it is inferred that the errors in volume rendering result from the shading and the integral arbitrariness. This study is important to visualize complex flowfields and to process data obtained by a large scale computing.
