A realistic approach to the test of safety critical software for aerospace applications
W.C. Dolman · 1996
The main activity of Lucas Aerospace, York Road is the development and production of safety critical control systems for aerospace applications. The software for the majority of these systems uses a Lucas proprietary language, LUCOL. As part of the language support environment a suite of five test tools has been developed over a number of years. The paper briefly describes the tools, and highlights recent developments to support the more rigorous test coverage analysis requirements needed to meet current standards, particularly RTCA DO-178B. It goes on to discuss our experiences in qualifying the tools in accordance with DO-178B. Finally, the use of the tools in the testing of project software to satisfy DO-178B Level A criteria is described. (6 pages)
