In peer-to-peer networks, free-riding is an inherently critical problem due to the unwillingness of peers to contribute their resources to the communities. The situation is deteriorated in live streaming services with stringent time limitation constructed on peer-to-peer overlays, in this paper, we introduce a postponed-payment based incentive mechanism by adopting game theory perspective for peer-to-peer live streaming systems. In our proposed mechanism, contributors to the system will be rewarded with the opportunity of paying their consumed resources in subsequent streaming sessions augmenting the utilities of both peers and system, therefore resulting in higher quality of live streaming services. Simulations show that our incentive mechanism can effectively reduce free-riders in live streaming services and significantly improve the streaming quality of cooperative peers.
