Ka band communication receiver banks with centralized LO and power supply

This paper describes Ka band communication receiver banks and centralized power supply and frequency generator units (CPSFGU) developed by Thales Alenia Space Italia for spaceborne telecommunication payloads. Assemblies cumulating 144 receivers based on this design were delivered for the O3b constellation, along with their CPSFGUs. The concept results in very competitive mass, consumption and cost whenever high enough reuse of LO frequencies is foreseen by the frequency plan, and is currently proposed as an alternative to standard individual receivers on a variety of GEO missions.
