The Prediction of Resolutions from Kovats Retention Indices as an Aid to Column Selection

A simple linear equation relating gas chromatographic resolutions to Kováts retention indices is demonstrated to facilitate column selection. The equation can be determined experimentally from chromatographic data on any column under any set of operating conditions. The versatility of the method is demonstrated by predicting separations based upon experimental, published, and predicted retention indices.
