Challenges and benefits of variable-depth streamer: from acquisition to interpretation.

Variable-depth streamer acquisition is a key solution for broadband marine seismic which utilizes a new deghosting technique to remove the receiver ghosts and extend the usable primary bandwidth of up to six octaves. Such a broader bandwidth, especially at the low-end, is particularly important for imaging, interpretation and seismic inversion, but the processing flow had to be properly adjusted to avoid damaging both ends of the spectrum. This paper will review the challenges and benefits of a broadband variable-depth streamer data from acquisition to interpretation and seismic inversion results.
