REPoRts fRom thE smPtE tEchnology committEEs Revision of RP 210 (Metadata Element Dictionary) is under way to produce version 13 (Broome) and of RP 224 (Labels Register) (Wilkinson) to produce version 11.Work is ongoing to create a Metadata Types Register (Tudor); a Controlled Vocabulary Register (Broome); an Essence Register (Wilkinson), to establish naming guidelines (Broome); and a study group on common core metadata (Broome).Metadata Structure working group (30.20)The following projects are in ballot resolution following FCD ballot: SMPTE 2003 (Types Register Structure) (Beard) and SMPTE 2024 (Registry XML Interchange Format) (Morgan).Revision of SMPTE 395 (Groups Register Structure) (Morgan) and SMPTE 400 (Labels Register Structure) (Wilkinson) is under way.Work is ongoing to create a Controlled Vocabulary Register Structure (Broome) and an Essence Register Structure (Wilkinson). Other tc PrOjectsFollowing five-year document review, amendment projects have started for SMPTE 330 (UMID) and SMPTE 331 (Element and Metadata Definitions for the SDTI-CP).The TC has reviewed an RDD document for a Media Identifier Registration Service, which is currently on hold, awaiting clarification from the proponent.Phil tudor is a lead engineer at BBC Research & Development, London, U.K.He studied electrical and information sciences at Cambridge University.Tudor's technical background includes software engineering, video compression algorithm development, MPEG standardization, metadata interoperability, and the development of AAF and MXF standard file formats for use in tapeless production.Tudor is responsible for R&D projects in the areas of production tools, formats, workflow, media management, and wide area production.In addition to chairing the SMPTE 30MR Technology Committee on Metadata & Registers, he is a board member of the Advanced Media Workflow Association.Tudor is a SMPTE fellow, a Chartered Engineer, and a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).Paul treleaven obtained a First Class Honors Degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College, London, in 1972.He started his career in broadcast engineering at BBC Designs Department, working on projects on vertical interval control data, an OB video switcher, and video synchronization equipment.He designed the interpolation system for the BBC's "ACE" four-field standards converter.In 1979, Treleaven co-founded Avitel, a company designing and manufacturing video, audio, and timecode distribution and processing equipment.He continued with Avitel as technical director until 2001.Treleaven is a member of the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers' (IABM's) Technical Task Group.He represents the IABM at SMPTE standards meetings, the Audio Engineering Society (AES) standards meetings, and Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) technology committee meetings.He is also a member of the U.K. 's National Standards Body for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) TC 100.Treleaven has been a long-standing member of SMPTE.He was Chair of the Technology Committee on Television Audio from 2006 to 2008.
