Architectural choices for dependable systems
Nicole Lévy · 2004
Architectural design is included in general frameworks for software development. However, rationale for a repeatable process is not always explicit. Each service provided by dependable systems requires the fulfillment of precise quality goals guaranteeing overall system's quality. Nevertheless, specification and measure of quality properties during software development is still an open problem. This work proposes a quality-based approach to architectural design focusing more on the problem to be solved rather than on the solution. At each step of the process, an architectural pattern is chosen on the basis of quality properties. The proposed process is applied to an illustrative example of a data sharing application in mobile ad hoc networks.
