Experiences with process modeling and quality control for development of embedded telecommunication systems

We describe a mature and successfully applied methodology for process modeling, tailoring, selection, instantiation, and quality control, applied by the R&D organization of Lucent Technologies, a large telecommunications supplier, in its Optical Networking Group (ONG) at Nuernberg. The sustained process culture has evolved since 1993 in our organization. We describe the process modeling approach and provides some insights into the process system deployed within large embedded development projects. As a key success factor for a mature development process, milestone (quality gate) reviews and associated process compliance metrics assessments are advocated.
