Verification strategies for high performance computing software

Skip Booth · 2004

All software engineering processes should contain a quality assurance process that includes verifying that the software is working correctly. High performance computing applications suffer particular challenges in this area, as the tasks being undertaken are usually research oriented. In addition these applications often utilise parallel computing hardware and the parallel/nation of the code also needs to be verified to be correct. We discuss strategies that can be used to verify software applications when the developers do not know in advance what the correct behaviour of the application is and have no alternative implementations to compare against and when the application is intended to run on parallel hardware.
