In developing models for understanding and integrating the behavior of a large system it is necessary that overall task of solving this problem be properly decomposed. Otherwise one could easily end up with models of disproportion ate size. Also, the interactive data and communication time between models could become large enough to result in a considerably slow simulation. In practice, a system designer works out a simple decomposition of the system based on previous experience and common sense. It is very much possible that different and decomposition's may be hidden, and if identified can provide a better approach to solving the problem. In this paper an approach on how such better decompositions may be identified starting from a given decomposition or how a given decomposition may be reconfigured is described. A computational technique that automates the process of reconfiguring a decomposition is further presented. The approach and the process are illustrated using the design problem of an aircraft Electric Load Management System.
