Approximations to Dialogue
Kenneth Pease, Paul Daniel Arnold · The American Journal of Psychology · 1973
In an attempt to assess the role of contextual constraints in dialogue, a method similar to that of Miller and Selfridge (1950) was used to produce 'approximations to dialogue.' Subjects who had been given a description of the social situation of a conversation and two to three utterances as context produced approximations to dialogue that were judged by other subjects as more plausible than approximations produced with less context, but not as less plausible than approximations with more context supplied.
