Notes from the NetJam Project

Craig Latta · Leonardo Music Journal · 1991

NetJam is a computer network that provides a means for people all over the world to collaborate on musical compositions and other works of art. Participants send Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) and other data files to each other via electronic mail (e-mail), edit them, and resend them. To join NetJam, all that are required are an interest in making music, access to MIDI-compatible equipment, e-mail and compression facilities (described below), and access to the Internet. The Internet is a large, world-wide computer network comprised of several smaller networks and includes many academic, commercial and industrial sites.
