Memory Interference as a Function of Rule-Governed Expectancies

The subjects learned repeating binary patterns of different transformational rule trees but equivalent run-encoded uncertainty (Experiment I) or of homogeneous versus inhomogeneous rule trees (Experiment II). The data illustrate the usefulness of prediction paradigms generally, and of Restle's rule system specifically, in the study and manipulation of the traditionally vague concept of expectancy.
