Internet Enabled Structural Opimization: New Dimensions to CAE

Mickey Schafer, D. Hartmann · 2000

A new concept for the design of distributed optimization frameworks is presented. With respect to the requirements of modern software tools, structural optimization is described by an object-oriented optimization model. The independent layers of this model are the basic elements for distributed software components across the Internet. Essential features of the concept are the platform independence, the reuseability and reconfigurability of all components, the integration of commercial software and the capability of web based computational steering. The characteristics of the prototypical implementations INTERROPT and FEARS, which incorporate modern network technologies, are elucidated.
