A diagnostic fuzzy expert system for ultrasonic testing (UT) which has been constructed by the authors shows good agreement between the results obtained by the system and UT experts. This paper attempts to construct a personal-computer-aided system which judges the shape of defect echo by data processing using a personal computer, and the obtained knowledge is treated as the input to the system. The results obtained by the proposed fuzzy expert system are compared with those by the exact system and the effectiveness of the fuzzy system is confirmed.
