Most traditional $0~ visualization techniques require the user to select approprtate parameters in order to reveal features in the physical flow. With the increasing complexity and problem size of numerical jiow simulations, the parameter selection task is becoming more time-consuming. There is a need for new visualization methods that can automatically highlight features in the JEow without user-specified parameters.’ In this papel; we describe a flow texture algorithm that highlights sut$ace$ow features automatically without user intervention. We show that the algorithm is more eflective in revealing surface flow features than traditional algorithms. In addition, we propose methods for highlighting flow features with the texturing algorithm. We found that using the algorithm in conjunction with other algorithms is very effective in analyzing surface flows. We also introduce two sur$ace$ow visualization systems that are based on the texture algorithm. Both of these systems are currently available to researchers in the US:
