Real-time capture, archiving, retrieval, processing, and presentation of large quantities of flight test/research information

Michael A. Scardello, Michael C. Nesel, DUANE WHEATON · 1992

Perhaps the biggest challenge to flight testhesearch data processing today is the storage and management of the ever increasing quantities of information collected. The center of our attention today is data, not the computer. The problems addressed in this paper include the capture, archiving, responsive retrieval, efficient and accurate processing, and presentation of these large quantities of information in a convenient and cost effective manner. New and emerging technologies in the mass storage arena, the continuous increases in computational performance, the advent of distributed and massively parallel processing architectures, and commercially available analysis and display tools provide the foundation from which solutions can be developed to solve today's problems and provide expansion capability to solve the problems of the future. This paper discusses an architectural approach which greatly increases the capabilityof handling these large quantities of data.
