Multicomponent streamer noise characteristics and denoising
Charlotte Sanchis, Thomas Elboth · 2014
Summary This paper presents a characterization of the noise recorded by a multicomponent towed streamer, as well as a noise attenuation method derived specifically for multicomponent data. We first show that vertical and crossline acceleration components are dominated by low frequency noise originating from transversal streamer vibration. This noise is dispersive and has a very low phase velocity. Spatial aliasing in the acceleration components is also emphasized through noise modeling analysis and discussed. We then present a joint noise attenuation algorithm that uses the high quality hydrophone data to clean the vertical and crossline components down to around 15Hz.
