Groundstatiions and Processing Software for Himawari-8
Gary Quinn · 2015
Himawari-8 is a new meteorological satellite covering the Asian region which was successfully launched in October 2014. It generates 450GB per day of remote sensing data, delivering an entire earth disk in 16 spectral channels, covering the VIS, NIR and IR bands. Most remarkably, a complete earth disk is transmitted every 10 minutes. This vast amount of data will be available via cloud services, and subsets of the data are redistributed via TV communications satellites. ESSWeathertech, a Melbourne based manufacturer, is developing hardware and software for the groundstations for this satellite. This paper describes the satellite, the cloud services and DVB re-distribution availability of the data, plus some early experience and examples of products generated from the new satellite.
