Practice Experiences with the Remote Monitoring System SMS 2001®

The monitoring system SMS 2001 was developed in co-operation with the Infokom GmbH Neubrandenburg as an academic-industrial partnership especially for the needs in long-term observations of infrastructure buildings, mainly with respect to realize a supervised life time extension. On some bridges and industrial buildings such systems have been installed, when preceded advanced loading test has been finished successful. The modular constructed intelligent system allows to be used in two different modes, long-term and event dependent measurements. A larger number of different kinds of sensors can be included. Interactive communications between system and the central office can be made for all important reasons. After discussion of main demands on such systems the structure of SMS 2001 and two-year practice experiences are dealt with. Finally an overview on main conclusions for preparing the next generation of this system is given.
