Approach to the Integration of Data Security in the CCSDS Packet TM/TC Standards

In recent times, the importance of data security in space communication has increased even for scientific missions. In order to meet the new security requirements, a generic set of open standards based on existing systems has to be developed. The contribution of this paper is a proposal for possible modifications to the widely used Packet TM/TC protocol family to incorporate security functionalities in a transparent manner. We will also address its impact on availability aspects like bandwidth or cross support services.
