This paper proposes a fuzzy logic technique to detect the loss of the UAV’s communication link. The method consists in testing the channel when a communication failure is detected and sending diagnostic packages to the far end node of the link. To detect the loss of communication and determine the cause, four metrics are used: Bad Packet Ratio (BPR), Clear Channel Assessment (CCA), RSS Received Signal Strength (RSS), and Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR). A Fuzzy Inference System (FSI) uses these parameters to compute a Jamming Index (JI) and to determine if the link is functioning normally, or if it is lost due to jamming or other causes. Evaluation results show that the proposed technique is efficient in detecting the loss of communication and determining its cause.
