Reliability Evaluation of Distributed Computing Networks using 2-mode Failure Analysis

S Selvam, Moinuddin, Kamal Ahmed · IETE Technical Review · 2001

In this paper, the Terminal Pair Reliability of a computing network is evaluated between two points ‘S’ and ‘T’ in the network. The probability analysis of DCN is studied with two category of node failures: permanent failure(resource failure) and temporary failure (node being busy or not responding over a finite time period). The Terminal reliability R(S-T) between two points (S, T) due to these failures are studied. Expressions for the network reliability R(S-T) are evaluated and the results are studied over some existing network configuration like star, ring and completely connected network. The terminal reliability is also evaluated over an illustrative example DCN so that the results can be utilised by the task scheduler in selecting reliable networks/paths.
