Customisation of electronic document control system.

A typical small and medium size engineering consulting firm (SME) in the construction industry often faces tremendous amount of electronic information to be stored, retrieved and distributed. Therefore, a well-placed document management system will enable documents to be managed effectively to improve the workflow. A feasibility study is first conducted to study the features provided in the commercially available Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) software. The needed features for handling electronic information in a typical SME firm are selected. The cost factor, time factor and additional works required to adopt the commercial EDMS are studied.
