Quicksilver: infinite story: procedurally generated episodic narratives for gameplay

Sennott, Michael J. (author) · University of Southern California Digital Library · 2012

Quicksilver: Infinite Story is a work of interactive entertainment that algorithmically creates dynamic, playable, genre-typified stories. By taking advantage of the tropes and formulas behind the adventure cartoon genre, Quicksilver's Phoenix Engine procedurally writes recognizable episode scripts, presenting them to players through action gameplay. This paper summarizes the theory and implementation behind the Phoenix Engine and details Quicksilver's exploration of how procedural episode generation might benefit the games medium.
