focused on the transition years from high school to college, working to better inform students about and prepare them for careers in computing fields. “Bridges ” involved academic and social components geared toward advanced high school students, and early and advanced college students. The project had three primary aims, each focused on a particular target group. These are outlined below: Aim #1—High School To develop and implement introductory computing courses for high school students, with the goal of being able to offer for-credit courses to New York City public school students in the summer and during the academic year. Aim #2—Undergraduate To develop and implement “flavored ” versions of introductory computing courses for undergraduates, with the goal of using a hands-on, contextualized approach to integrate topics such as robotics and games into traditional programming curricula (e.g., “CS1 ” and “CS2”) and to create interdisciplinary courses that introduce computer science concepts to non-majors.
