Dialogues and a Diary,1 fourth volume of conversations between Igor Stravinsky and Robert Craft, was apparently intended to be last; for a footnote in Expositions and Developments2 refers to the current tetralogy and goes on to speak of Stravinsky's unwillingness to spare time from composition to produce another book. Now it appears that there will in fact be another in series, and at least one excerpt from it has already been published (in Show, February, 1964). But even without it, list of composer's literary works is an imposing one. From An Autobiography* and Poetics of Music* through tetralogy, these books span thirty of Stravinsky's most productive years, and their contents range entire eighty years of his life.
