Video transport mechanism is an important index of the video encoded technology. Compared to the widely studied MPEG-4 encoded video, the recently adopted H.264 video coding standards include many novel mechanisms. Therefore, the performance of H.264 video coding standards is better than the traditional encoding standards. However, the advanced performance comes at the price of the huge computational complexity and memory access requirement. The enhancement of complexity makes it difficult to design a hardwired encoder for real time applications. The multiple reference frame technology which is used in the H.264 video coding standards is one of the most important factors which increase the computational complexity. In order to improve the capability of multiple reference frame technology, a fast search algorithm is proposed in this paper. In this method, a technology based on directional search pattern and auxiliary search point is used to match results firstly. Then a rational threshold selection method is proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Experimental results show that the algorithm can increase the search rate while keeping the similar PSNR.
