On 6 December 2001, the CBS network's television crime series CSI went to number one in the Neilsen ratings in the US, where it has mostly stayed ever since.1 In Australia where it has screened on Channel 9, the show has regularly rated first in drama nationwide, only rivalled in popularity by its 2003 spin-off, CSI Miami.
