Automatic repeat request (ARQ) is one of the most commonly used schemes for error control in highly reliable data communication systems. There has been a lot of literature that show the performances of various ARQ systems in end-bend transmission systems which have only one link. The performance of the system with two links cascade connecting as in satellite communication systems has been analysed. However, the ARQ scheme in the system with more than two cascade connecting links has not been studied yet. In this paper, we investigate the performance of ARQ systems with multiple cascade connecting links which can be seen in the system including inter-satellite communication links. Here, we employ a GBN ARQ scheme synchronously operated on each link. The throughput efficiency through a whole system is analytically derived. It is found that under the condition that total round-trip delay is equal, the throughput efficiency increases proportional to the increase of the number of links.
