Zibo Guo, Zhongliang Shang · 2012
Extracting iso surface of time-dependent scalar field and showing change of its shape in real time could help user analyze radiation and control electromagnetic situation. This paper proposes an algorithm called Interval based on Grid Sampling (IOGS), which samples mathematical model describing the distribution characteristic of scalar field and gets the time-dependent dataset. Besides, it defines a structure called Interval Octree to make dataset hierarchical, and extracts all the grids intersecting the iso surface by inquiring downward the stepwise. After that we refer to Marching Cube to find crossing points together with their normal vectors. The iso surface is rendered from them. IOGS algorithm performs quite well in fast extraction and interactive visualization of the 3D iso surface. In addition, it is of great significance for other issues in scientific visualization.
