Optimization of biorthogonal wavelet filters for signal and image compression

Jabran Akhtar · NORA - Norwegian Open Research Archives · 2001

This study experiments with novel ways to design biorthogonal wavelet filters for use in signal/image compression applications. The filters are constructed by directly minimizing the energy of a decomposed signal- or image's high frequency subbands. Particularly for images this can result in filters who return higher PSNR values at low bit-rate coding.
