H.721: Standard for multimedia terminal devices supporting HEVC

The newest ITU-T H.721 standard "IPTV terminal devices: Basic model" is described. Main goal of this revision is to enhance content quality by adopting latest video coding and adaptive streaming techniques. Selected technologies include H.265 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and high quality content streaming using Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH). This paper summarizes the standard and carefully chosen profiles to maximize perceived content quality.
