Hierarchical motion estimation for targeted content and beyond

Dietmar Hepper · 2016

Targeted Content applications include insertion of image or video content such as ads in existing video sequences at defined places. This requires defining points of interest marking the insertion area in a certain frame and then tracking these points in both forward and backward directions reliably and precisely. A hierarchical motion estimator using block matching has been enhanced to meet these requirements. It includes an arbitrarily large search range, sub-pel motion estimation, forward and backward point tracking with sub-pel offset management, and DFD-based segmentation for enhanced point tracking in the presence of distracting moving objects.
