HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACE IN BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEMS

Nancy Laning Sobczak · OakTrust (Texas A&M University Libraries) · 1981

With the evolution of the Building Automation System industry there has been an increasing emphasis on the development and utilization of complex energy saving and control features. The complexity of this operation has surfaced a communication problem between the non-computer knowledgeable operator and the computer based Building Automation System. One of the solutions to this problem is the design and implementation of a human machine interface which educates the operator to utilize the system to the greatest possible extent, thereby facilitating better payback on the computer based energy conservation features. This paper will discuss the necessary features of such a human machine interface design which will facilitate the operator's understanding and definition of the system's operation.
