Broadband beamforming
John E. Piper · 2011
Beamforming array data requires time-shift operations. For narrowband signals the time shifting is universally approximated with phase shifts. Broadband signals require time-shift operators to perform the beamforming function. This operator can be represented in terms of Fourier matrices and a phase shift matrix. This paper considers the one, two, and three broadband signal models. These are solved using a block-adjugate matrix as an approximate inverse. This leads to complete decoupling of the broadband signals. Time-shift operators are also useful as the basis for direction-of-arrival estimates.
