Subsequence detection
Mahesh K. Varanasi · 2002
The concept of subsequence detection is introduced within the context of linearly modulated data transmission over intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. The motivation for this new approach is that for channels with severe ISI, linear and decision feedback equalizers have a poor performance while the maximum likelihood sequence detector (MLSD), although implementable via the Viterbi algorithm, has a complexity that is exponential in the length of the ISI channel response. The subsequence detection scheme, on the other hand, has a controllable complexity via an integer design parameter M, and a performance that is commensurate with its chosen complexity.>
